Gavin Cowan believes AFC Telford are ahead of schedule
Long-term thinker Gavin Cowan wants AFC Telford United to cement themselves as ahead of schedule by reaching the National League North play-offs.
Cowan took over last summer with the aim of getting the Bucks back into promotion contention in a few years.
And they have surprised a fair few by being on the verge of seventh – the last play-off spot – with just one game of the regular season to go.
They go to York on Saturday and will extend their campaign if they better Bradford Park Avenue’s result at Chorley or, if they both lose, if Avenue’s margin of defeat is two more.
“I am here for the long haul, we have that vision and we are probably ahead of schedule,” said Cowan.
“The club see a path forward and believe in my vision, and that was part of the deal of me signing. We are of the same mind and have that vision, but I am about the present and getting a win.”
Telford are seven games unbeaten in the league but have slipped outside the play-offs because five of those have been draws.
Cowan has urged everyone to forget about the what-ifs – if some of those stalemates were victories instead – and focus on getting over the line at Bootham Crescent.
“We have no time to be disappointed, it is still all the play for,” he added.
“It is not done and dusted, so we are not disappointed, we have a big game and we have to focus on that and be ready.
“We will be ready and prepared for every eventuality.”
