Newtown is a tricky test says Scott Ruscoe

Just last week, the Saints overcame Barry Town United 2-0 at Latham Park to set up a Welsh Cup final showdown with title rivals Connah's Quay Nomads next month.

And Scott Ruscoe's high-fliers will be banking on another successful foray into Mid Wales this weekend as they turn their thoughts to landing an eighth successive league crown.

Their destiny is now firmly in their own hands after tightening their grip at the top with a 7-0 mauling of Bala Town in midweek in which top scorer Greg Draper and sub Adrian Cieslewicz both scored twice.

That resounding win stretched their unbeaten run to 19 games - while putting the defending champions four points clear with just four games remaining.

Boss Scott Ruscoe will want his charges to again show that ruthless streak as they head to a Newtown side who will be looking to gain some momentum ahead of the end of season play-offs.

"We're clicking at the right time," he said. "We're looking sharp, creating chances, and a lot of players are doing well.

"A four point lead at the top now gives us a bit of a margin and puts the pressure on Connah's Quay, but we've got to be at it again on Saturday as Newtown's always a tricky place to go."

Ruscoe is pondering an abundance of selection options against a Robins side who drew 1-1 at Latham Park back in October with a penalty from Greg Draper earning TNS a point.

While Newtown have proved competitive in the past, they last defeated TNS at home back on Boxing Day 2013.
