Defender Kieran Kennedy has departed Shrewsbury Town to join Sam Ricketts' former side Wrexham.

The 25-year-old joined Town in the summer as he made the move from Macclesfield with manager John Askey.

Handed the number four shirt on his arrival, Kennedy looked likely to be central to Askey's plans in Shropshire.

However, the former England U19 international and Manchester City youth star only managed a single league appearance.

Kennedy has signed a sixth month deal with the Red Dragons that will see him remain at the Racecourse Ground until the end of the season.

Interim Wrexham manager Graham Barrow told the club's official website: “Kieran is the centre-half I have been talking about and who I have been trying to sign for the past week or so. He won the league last season with Macclesfield, is a good age and is a very good defender.

“The skipper (Shaun Pearson) and Jake (Lawlor) have played a lot of games in a short space of time and with Manny (Smith) and young Doug (Tharme) out at the moment, Kieran joining is excellent news.

“It gives us depth and would also allow us to play with three at the back if needs be.”

The defender becomes the second Town player this week to join Ricketts' former side Wrexham as he follows new signing Brad Walker across the border.
