Shrewsbury Town's Luke Hendrie is poised to seal a permanent move to Grimsby Town.

The versatile defender has impressed with the Mariners on loan this season, where he has featured 26 times, including the recent FA Cup third round defeat at Crystal Palace.

Hendrie, 24, was signed by Paul Hurst from Burnley a year ago and featured fleetingly in the second part of last season.

But the right-back, whose Town contract is up in the summer, is believed to be surplus to requirements at Sam Ricketts' Shrewsbury.

Ricketts wanted to trim Town's bloated squad heading into January and has already seen four players leave Montgomery Waters Meadow, with Hendrie set to add to that list.

Michael Jolley's Grimsby are 14th in League Two.
