Paul Hurst introduced the Shrewsbury-born midfielder in the 71st-minute against the Cumbrians at the Croud Meadow, and the 31-year-old helped his new side to their second win in 10 home League One matches since November.

The former-Wolves midfielder signed a short-term deal with Salop last week which sees him with the club until the end of the season. But, Price is hoping to make a name of himself and have a future with the club.

“Hopefully I’ll play here for a few years,” said Price. “It’s down to my body, the club, and all that.

“It’ll hopefully come together in the summer. But, I’m just focusing on playing a few more games this season. I know there’s not many left,so it’s not the greatest. I wish there were 20 games left, but it is what it is.

“Hopefully I can play as many as I can of the seven left and we will see in the summer and go from there.”

Daniel Udoh netted the only goal of the game as Shrewsbury bounced back from defeat to Exeter City and moved to nine points clear of the relegation zone.

With seven games left to play this season, Price believes time is against him as he tries to earn a spot in the starting 11.

The 31-year-old said: “I don’t know if I’ve got enough time to get up to speed for 90 minutes. I think it’s too soon for that.

“That’s not my call but hopefully if I train well in the next 13 days I can get some fitness up and get going. I felt good out there, my legs are a bit stiff but it’s normal. At some point in the season it would be nice to start.

“I was hoping we were three or four up before I entered. It’s fine though, I’ve had many games where I’ve had to come on and see it off.

“Thankfully that header went straight into Marko’s hands because I was a bit panicky there. Apart from that I think the lads did well.

“It’s not ideal to come on to a 1-0, because if they score you think it’s your fault no matter what.”

Price has spent time with Shrewsbury recovering from an achilles tendon injury which he sustained playing in the MLS with the Colorado Rapids. The local lad revealed his relationship with Town boss Paul Hurst saying: “He’s been great, I knew the gaffer before from when I was at Wolves and we played a couple of times.

“I was close to coming the first time that he was here. When I spoke to him he was open and he said listen, prove your fitness and that you can get back training and we will see what we can do on our end.

“He’s just honest and that’s all you ever want from a manager.

“I’m really pleased for him to get his first win back here at home, so hopefully that’s not the last this season.”
