Should they beat Danish side Midtjylland, the Welsh Premier champions will face Swedish team Malmo or Vidi of Hungary.

The final line-up for the play-off round – from which the winners will advance to the group stages – will be determined after the third qualifying round, which begins this week.

Scott Ruscoe’s Saints face Midtjylland, with the first leg on Thursday at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Rangers and Hibernian could both face trips to Russia in their quests to reach the group stages of the Europa League.

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers will have to play Russian side Ufa or Progres Niederkorn of Luxembourg in the play-off round should they see off Maribor in their next qualifier.

The draw for the play-offs pitted Hibs or Molde against Zenit St Petersburg or Dinamo Minsk of Belarus, while Premier League side Burnley will face Olympiakos or Lucerne if they beat Istanbul Basaksehir.

Scottish champions Celtic will hope not to be involved as they bid to progress in the Champions League but they will drop into the competition should they lose their next qualifier to AEK Athens. They would then play Spartaks Jurmala of Latvia or Lithuanian side Suduva in the Europa League play-offs.

These play-off ties will be played over two legs on August 23 and 30.

Also in the draw, Welsh side The New Saints learned they will play a side dropping out from the Champions League if they reach the play-offs.

Irish side Cork will take on Salzburg or Shkendija if they get past Rosenborg.
