Nuno: Defeat won’t dim Wolves' desire to grab silverware

Nuno Espirito Santo is confident Wolves’ desire to win trophies will continue to burn bright despite experiencing FA Cup heartbreak.

Nuno’s side are now focused on finishing as strong as they can in the Premier League after their semi-final loss to Watford at Wembley.

Defeat at the hands of the Hornets and the manner of it, giving up a two-goal lead, was tough for everybody, but it will not affect Wolves’ winning mentality.

“The ambition of the squad is something that we really want, to always be present,” said Nuno, whose charges are looking to bounce back at Southampton today.

“It has to be on a daily basis. If you truly want to win things, you have to work harder and harder.

"It can only make you stronger because you acquire different situations that make you better.

“It’s been like this in all the 19 months we’ve been together.

“It’s not a question of a message, it’s a question of philosophy.

“It’s our modus operandi. It’s the way we work.

“We analyse all the time, we are a competitive team that always wants to play.”

Many were lost for words after last Sunday’s setback, including Leander Dendoncker who gave away the last-minute penalty, which Troy Deeney scored to take the game to extra-time.

But Nuno says the midfielder has not dwelt on that, as everyone involved with the club felt the same pain.

“It’s the same for everybody, the squad, the fans, you (the media),” he said.

“It’s tough – for everyone, not just for one person more than the other. We have to stick together and stand up.

"There’s no need (for the players to get around him), it’s been like this for 19 months. Always a collective issue.”

He added: “All season long, there has only been one option – work hard to become successful.

“Every time we don’t achieve what we propose, disappointment comes. But you look at the other side, and you’re proud you’ve competed well.”
