Wolves' loan rangers: How have they performed?

Now the regular season has ended, Wolves are welcoming back lots of players who have been out on loan.

There were 25 who went away, but who had productive spells elsewhere?

Here, Joe Edwards takes a look at how they have all fared.

Bright Enobakhare

Winning Coventry’s young player of the season award despite only joining them in January, Enobakhare has probably benefited the most from being loaned out.

Having had an unsuccessful stint at Kilmarnock in the first half of the campaign, it was arguably make or break with the Sky Blues – and the 21-year-old shone in League One.

He managed six goals in 18 games for Mark Robins’ men.

His contract is expiring at Wolves imminently, but it is understood talks are ongoing.

Kortney Hause

Another man who has caught the eye while away, despite a rocky start, is Hause at Villa.

He endured a nightmare debut as a substitute at Wigan, but has bounced back to become a dependable and versatile figure at the back.

A hip injury prevented the 23-year-old from featuring all that much in the final weeks as Villa sealed a play-off place in the Championship.

He helped get Dean Smith’s side back on track though with some steady showings – as a centre-half and left-back.

Villa have an option to buy him in the summer, and it would be a surprise if they do not take it.

Leo Bonatini

Bonatini’s stint back in the Championship proved far less fruitful than Hause’s.

It is the division in which he shone during the first half of the 2017/18 season, but he barely kicked a ball at Nottingham Forest.

Five games – two as a starter – brought no goals for the Brazilian, so it is difficult to see him starring at Wolves in the future.

There may not be many willing to buy him though given how little he played at the City Ground, and with three years remaining on his Molineux contract, he is likely set for another loan spell next season.

Roderick Miranda

The Portuguese centre-half started well enough at Wolves as they went on to win the Championship, but had become a bit-part player by the time Nuno & Co lifted the trophy.

And things went similarly for him at Greek outfit Olympiakos.

The 28-year-old made eight appearances – seven from the off – as they finished as runners-up in the league.

He played 20 times across all competitions. Olympiakos have opted not to buy him.

Rafa Mir

There was a fair bit of excitement when Wolves signed the Spaniard from Valencia, being as he reportedly also caught the attention of Real Madrid.

But after just two Championship appearances, in which he looked off the pace, he was loaned out to Las Palmas for the season.

Mir’s 29 appearances – 19 as a starter – have brought seven goals in the Spanish second tier.

Another loan spell or a permanent return to his homeland seems the best bet with him.

Jordan Graham

Injuries and slumps in form have hampered the 24-year-old over the past few years.

But he did pretty well at Oxford in League One.

The winger regularly featured for the U’s since re-joining them on loan in January, scoring a stunning free-kick at Blackpool to give them their first league win on the road in February.

Graham, right, had a good run of games at Oxford (AMA)

Coupled with his appearances for Ipswich in the first half of the season, Graham passed 20 games in a season for the first time.

There is one year left on his Wolves deal, so another loan appears likely.

Harry Burgoyne

In 2017, Burgoyne was between the sticks as Wolves clinched a famous victory at Liverpool in the FA Cup.

He then came on towards the end as Nuno’s side ended the Championship-winning campaign with a surprise 3-0 loss at Sunderland.

This past season has been an interesting one for him.

Initially loaned to Plymouth, he returned without playing for them having broken his ankle.

The second half of the term was spent at Falkirk, making 15 appearances and keeping four clean sheets as they finished bottom of the Scottish Championship.

Now 22, Burgoyne has a year left on his contract, but you would imagine he wants to continue playing regular football – either on loan again or moving away permanently.

Connor Ronan

After an unsuccessful period with Walsall, Ronan was at a crossroads.

He needed a fresh start in a bid to fulfil his early promise, so he took the bold decision to go to Slovakia and play for Dunajska Streda. And he has loved it.

He has done so well in fact, Wolves have extended his deal until 2021.

Benny Ashley-Seal

Rather than continuing with Wolves Under-23s and their eventual PL2 Division Two title triumph, the 20-year-old target man was out in Portugal.

And he helped Famalicao to the LigaPro (second tier) title.

He played five times – all as a substitute – and scored in a win which secured the club’s promotion to the top flight for the first time in 25 years.

Ashley-Seal signed a bumper new Wolves contract before heading to Portugal, so he may feature in pre-season under Nuno, as he did last year.

The rest

Ronan is not the only one who has been at Dunajska Streda – Christian Herc and Daniel Csoka have been too.

Boubacar Hanne, Sherwin Seedorf, Ming-yang Yang, Ryan Leak and Sylvain Deslandes have been at partner club Jumilla in Spain.

Goalkeeper Jack Ruddy has also been in Spain, at Reyes. David Wang – signed back in January – has been at Sporting, Phil Ofosu-Ayeh with Wurzburger Kickers, Aaron Hayden just down the road at Stourbridge and Ben Goodliffe with Dagenham & Redbridge.

Still in the Football League have been Connor Johnson, Donovan Wilson and Ethan Ebanks-Landell, with Walsall, Exeter and Rochdale respectively, but none made a massive impression.

Polish striker Michal Zyro has been back in his homeland with Pogon Szczecin and scored once.
