Aaron Rai so close to Open spot

Former Shropshire junior golfer Aaron Rai just missed out on a place at this week’s Open – but landed 112,836 euros (just under £100,000) in prize money.

Rai finished in a tie for ninth at the Aberdeen Standard Scottish Open on 13-under – the same total as world No 3 Justin Rose – with the top three qualifying for Carnoustie.

Former Ludlow player Olive Farr finished in a tie for 50th place at at Gullane in an event won by South Africa’s Brandon Stone who carded an incredible last round of 60 to finish on -20.
