After spinners Ryan Quiney and Joe Arnold had combined to strangle the Ludlow batsmen, Australian import Michael Delacovo took centre stage with the bat to power Worfield to an eight-wicket success.

Chasing 90 for victory, Delacovo stroked his way to an unbeaten 66 from 46 balls, including five fours and six sixes, to see his side home.

Spin twins Quiney and Arnold impressed with the ball with Quiney bagging 5-16 from 12.4 overs while Arnold picked up 1-4 from seven. Seamer Ben Parker also helped himself to a couple of wickets.

All in all it was another job well done by Worfield and captain Dale Quiney is delighted with the way Delacovo has settled in.

“It wasn’t as comfortable as the scorebook suggests because it was a difficult deck to bat on,” said the Davenport Park skipper. “We lost Karl (Quiney) early on, in the past that might have affected us. But Michael played a great knock.

“He came in had hit his first ball for six and basically said ‘you ain’t bowling at me’. He was really positive.

“He is a top lad and he gets involved in the training. He plays at a good level back home and he looks a good addition. It was a good win. Ryan and Joe tied them up with the ball.

“They kept it nice and straight and didn’t give the batters anything to hit.

“They built pressure and that brought wickets. They both bowled really well. Ryan got the wickets on this occasion but on another day it could have been Joe.”

Jonathan Clifton hit the top flight’s highest score of the day to help Bomere Heath to a 93-run win at home to Allscott.

Clifton made 77 in his side’s total of 177, with Matt Jones (31) and Henry Preece (27) the only other batters to reach double figures as Chris Starling claimed a five-wicket haul and Jason Summers took 3-48.

Bomere’s bowlers then sealed the deal by rolling the visitors over for 84. Sam Ellis (3-17), Sam Bloor (3-15) and Jones (2-14) impressed with the ball.

St Georges gained the lion’s share of the points after picking up a winning draw against Wellington.

A half-century from Rory Livingstone and 20s from Gareth Hughes, Michael Griffiths, Austin Rowley and Ben Byram saw St Georges to 189-8. Stephen Brookes was the pick of the Wellington attack with 3-50.

Dan Lloyd then played a lone hand with the bat for Wellington, ending unbeaten on 70 as they held on for a draw at 149-9. Livingstone completed an impressive all-round display by picking up 4-39.
