Telford Hornets on hunt for a new coach

Telford Hornets are weighing up their next move following the departure of coach Zach Baker.

Baker has decided to step down following a difficult opening half of the season with Hornets rock bottom of the Midlands 2 West (North) standings and still searching for their first point.

First-team manager Roger Bates will pick the side for tomorrow’s clash away to Leek.

After enjoying a rapid rise in recent years that included three promotions under former coach Paul Keen, who left at the end of last season due to work commitments, Hornets have found life extremely tough this season.

“It’s been a disappointing season and Zach felt it was best to move on,” said Bates. “All we can do now is solider on and look at our options.

“This is a tough division. There are four very good teams who have three or four players that are good enough to play at a higher level. In some cases it’s semi-professional.

“It took a long while for us to appoint a coach in the summer and as a result pre-season wasn’t as long as we would have liked.

“We also lost a few players, while there were a number of players who had indicated that they would join us if we got promoted and then didn’t come for whatever reason.

“It has been very challenging especially having picked up a fair few injuries because we haven’t got the strength in depth to cope with many injuries.

“But as a club we will discuss where we go next and what the plan of action is.”
