Cash For Your Community 2018: Judges choose groups for £20,000 giveaway

It was a difficult task, but after careful deliberation our Cash For Your Community team has finally selected the 35 voluntary groups and charities which will benefit from this year's £20,000 giveaway.

The Shropshire Star has once more teamed up with our partners at Enterprise Flex-E-Rent to share our £20,000 dream fund among good causes across Shropshire and mid-Wales.

This year we received applications from 105 different organisations, and our judging panel sat for seven hours yesterday to carefully deliberate over which groups were chosen.

The panel, made up of staff from both the Shropshire Star and Enterprise Flex-E-Rent, spent yesterday studying each application in detail before whittling them down to a final 35.

Shropshire Star circulation manager Andy Maxwell, who sat on the panel, said the standard of this year's entries was very high indeed.

"There were so many excellent applications this year, it was very hard deciding between them, and a lot of careful thought went into deciding which groups would benefit this year," he said.

"We have come up with a list of what we think are 35 excellent applications, and we congratulate those that made it through to the final cut."

The successful organisations will be notified by post before they are announced next month in a special supplement in the Shropshire Star.

Readers will then be invited to collect tokens printed in the newspaper for the groups they wish to support, and the money will be shared out according to how many tokens they collect.
